Society of Primary Care Policy Fellows

Accomplishments for 2003-2004
presented at
ANNUAL MEETING

The group identified two main priorities for the SPCPF over the next year.

Goal I: Advocate for Primary Care

v      Engage primary care professionals in legislative/policy agenda.

·          Participated in “Cover the Uninsured” planning  4/04

·          Participated in Families USA Health Action national grassroots conference Jan.04

·          Participated in an AHEC sponsored panel on Primary Care telecast to 5 university health professions programs/schools

 

v      Coalition building

·          Participated on HRSA –BHPr Outcomes Workgroup

·          Participated on advisory planning committee for National Primary Care Week

 

v      Joint programs

·          Discussions with HHS Fellowship staff about possible interface with the Fellowship vis a vis fellows selection, curriculum advisement, mentoring and updating and maintaining the database of fellows

 

v      Develop relationships, visibility with legislative leadership

·          Met with various legislative offices;

    Sen. Byrd, Sen. Bingaman, Sen. Domenici,
                  And Rep. John Boozman

 

v      Developing talking points for legislative members/legislative teaching module

 

v      Develop policy partners and discuss issues

·          “National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy”- signed on as partner for May 7 national event

·          “Cover the Uninsured Week”

·           Disseminate information regarding Title VII and Title VIII.

 

Goal II: Ensure the Existence of the Fellowship/Society

v      Line item budget

 

v      Establish an advisory committee

·          Fitzhugh Mullan, MD, Sue Hassmiller, PhD

·          Mary Wakefield in-kind Roundtable Proposal consulting

 

v      SPCPF provide administration of Fellowship

·          Attempted to provided input

 

v      Use SPCPF resources/fellows to advocate at HHS

 

v      Plan a strategy meeting with primary care leaders

·          Roundtable planning in progress

 

v      Develop support among sponsoring organizations

·          Some fellows made direct contact with organizations to discuss SPCPF

·          Varied financial support by sponsoring organizations this year

 

v      Complete an outcome analysis of the Fellowship

·          Board discussion of follow-up with HHS

 

v      Be flexible

 

v      Increase the role of the Society in design input to the Fellowship curriculum

·          Planning discussions with Lynn Wegman and Jennifer Donovan at HRSA to  have 2004 class join us at annual meeting
and reception

     Other accomplishments for SPCPF

·          Presented to 2004 Fellowship class

·          Reception to be held for class of 2004

·          Plan to attend 2004 graduation

·          Web-site enhanced
